Rock'n'Roll and Other Lost Causes
If you don't know who The Cramps are, then I suspect that the Under The Wires music policy may not be for you. However, as you are here, then I'll accept that you not only know, but LOVE The Cramps and all they gave us. Back in 2009, as you well know, Lux Interior finally ascended to the ether. Following that loss, we ran dozens of Lux Lives parties - celebrations of the Lux and his life - where as many bands as we can fit in to the night play 3 or 4 songs each from The Cramps canon. This is NOT a tribute night. Tributes are lame. Nobody here is trying to copy The Cramps. All the bands are briefed to select their songs and do what they want with them. Just like the Cramps did to the the rockabilly and garage wreckage that they sifted out from the past.
We stopped doing these parties in 2019, mainly because I didn't think I could do anything fresh with them and I didn't want them to get stale and be same old, same old. It's been a hard few years since 2019 - for a lot of reasons - and we've caved in to the massive public clamour and agreed to do two more in 2025.
The first, at Bloc in Glasgow, is a FREE show. It will be a shorter event with an earlier finish, warming us up for the bigger show in Edinburgh (OK, in Leith), where we take over our old home - The Franklin Cricket Club - for an all-night event. When I say all night, I mean live music over by 11:30 and show over by 01:00. Yes, we used to runs these things with live music right up until 3am, but there's just no venues in Edinburgh any more where we can get away with that and, to be honest, it was a f**cking nightmare to organise and stage manage.
We'll trickle out announcements on the bands over the next week or two. If you've been before then you know what you're getting. If you have not, then I don't think you'll hear a single bad thing from anyone who has. And, you know what? It's a party, not a show. We're doing this for fun, and because we'll never see the Cramps again. That's a sad fact, but the return of Lux Lives is not.
Tear it up!
Tickets are £15. Yes, the event listing says Lux Lives 2015, but gimme a break, it was New Year's Day when I put the ticket listing together. I'll get it fixed when I can.
